A writing round-up

I spent most of last year editing, rewriting and fawning over my thesis, in that strange way you do with a manuscript with which you've spent plenty of time: it becomes your master, it's all you can think about, and you are beholden to it. So suffice to say I didn't do much other writing (or thinking).
It's been a relief, and an absolute joy, to write about pretty much what I like this year, and I've been invited to do some nice stuff. I was asked to write about the National Folklore Survey for England for a really impressive new magazine, Chalk, and to review Lally MacBeth's book, The Lost Folk, for Caught By The River, a website I've been a long-time reader of. I've also loved getting back into writing regularly for Songlines, interviewing some lovely folk (literally) and being given the rather indulgent opportunity to write about my morris 'journey'. I'm hoping to do more, so look out for more bylines.
