Exploring the Emporium with creative writing

On 2 and 3 August, I met my cohort of Scribes as part of the Explorers of the Emporium summer camp project, held at the wonderful Phantasmagoria in Ashton-under-Lyne. We had two full days of writing about new places and new faces, developing ambitious plots and thinking about how we write exciting, attention-grabbing beginnings and dialogue.

As you can tell, painting expressions for our characters proved particularly popular...

The stories the young people came up with then informed the next four days of activity: firstly creating board games, with artist extraordinaire, Ann Gilligan; then the creation of dance and movement, all captured on film with dancer and choreographer, Olivia Peers.

It's been a fantastic project to be involved with – I very much hope I get the chance to do more creative writing with young people in the future!
